About Domestic Poultry

Mandolin Creek Farm raises a variety of domestic poultry: chickens, ducks, and geese.

All of these birds roam free in our pastures and woods and receive minimal supplemental feed.

We raise primarily Barred Plymouth Rock chickens for meat and eggs. They primarily produce culinary chicken eggs, but we put aside fertile eggs for hatching as well.

Mandolin Creek Farm currently has two breeds of ducks roaming around.

Khaki Campbell

We raised Khaki Campbell ducks for eggs and meat, but predators culled our flocks heavily over the 2017-2018 winter. The bald eagles won this battle, because we could not protect our ducks when they were out on the water.

A small flock of Muscovy ducks was established here in August 2018, with the hope they will fare better than the Khaki Campbell did.

Our last pair of Bourbon Red turkey toms were sent to processing in October 2018. We may raise turkeys again in the future, at the request of our farmshare owners.

We have a trio of Buff American geese, the only remaining survivors of our flock after a mink attack (2016) and an avian flu outbreak (2017-2018). We hope to incubate eggs in 2019 (or buy goslings) and expand our flock.
